On July 1, Brigadier Godfrey Bess was appointed Chief of Staff of the Guyanese Defense Forces by the President of that South American nation, Brigadier (Retired) David Granger, who also serves as Minister of Defense. Before taking up the new post, Bess, who held the rank of colonel, was promoted to brigadier.
